Akoya Pearl
Akoya pearls are produced by Japanese Akoya Oyster. The limpid sea water and the advanced skills of culturing pearls in Japan provide a great environment for Akoya Pearl to flourish. After growing for 3 – 4 years, the Akoya Pearl will be covered by a thin layer of calcium crystal. Unlike their freshwater cousins, akoya pearl oysters rarely produce more than two pearls per harvest. The oysters are nucleated with a bead composed of mother-of-pearl and a small piece of mantle tissue. This bead becomes the nucleus of the pearl and is the reason akoya pearls are more often perfectly round. This shape, combined with the high-luster found on top-quality akoya pearls, and their relative rarity compared to freshwater pearls, give akoya pearls a higher perceived value. That makes the Akoya Pearl bigger, brighter and more vivid than freshwater pearls.
The size of Akoya Pearl is about 4-9mm. It is rare to discover Akoya Pearl which is bigger than 9mm. In comparison with the large South Sea Pearl, Akoya is perfectly designed for those petite women in Asia. As a consequence, the Akoya pearl has widely been used in making necklace, pendants, earrings, rings.
As a leading constitution on issuing quality report, valuations, identification about Pearl in Japan, the Pearl Science Laboratory(PSL) will identify and classify those Akoya Pearls. Customers buy all pearls which are graded as Madara, Tennyo, Queen from our shop. They will receive the relevant certificate issued from the Pearl Science Laboratory.
